The Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup
The SCCA Pro Racing Volkswagen Jetta Cup was launched in 2008 as way to introduce clean diesel technology to the U.S. market and develop the best of motorsport’s up-and-coming talent. During the season, young, up and coming drivers (between ages 16-26) compete on road
courses around North America in identical factory-prepared clean diesel Jetta TDI’s. Each driver competing in the series earns a Pro Racing license from SCCA at the conclusion of the season. In addition to more than $50,000 in prize money at stake during the season, the series champion receives Volkswagen factory career advancement
support with a value up to $100,000.
For just $45,000 for the season, The Volkswagen TDI Cup offers up-and-coming drivers 10 races across North America. Before the season begins, each driver goes through an extensive selection process and attends the Final Driver Selection Event. It is in the final round of the selection process that our drivers
receive several days of instruction in driving, physical fitness, sponsorship & marketing, media training, and VW brand familiarization.
Our drivers also receive tremendous local and national media coverage, as well as the opportunities to race alongside several major racing events. For those who didn’t get to see the TDI Cup cars on the track, you can catch our documentary, “Racing Under Green” on YouTube. The series offers aspiring drivers
great exposure throughout North America and the opportunity to pursue a professional career in racing. Past participants of the TDI Cup are currently running in the Koni Sports Car Challenge, the Grand Am Continental Tire Challenge, as well the ADAC Formula Masters series and the Scirroco Cup in Europe. The 2008 champion was also given
the opportunity to test and race in the Seat Leon Touring Car Series in Europe.
On top of media coverage, the Volkswagen TDI Cup also pays out over $50,000 in purse winnings and Volkswagen factory career advancement support with a value up to $100,000. Karting finalists chosen to move on to the Final Driver Selection Event will need to pay their season fee by December 10, 2010. The Final
Driver Selection Event will be held in early 2011.
